2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the legislation that created Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), a “made-in-Ontario” innovation that allows local businesses, property owners and the community to join together and, with the support of the municipality, to carry out improvements and promote economic development within their designated areas. They have inspired revitalization initiatives around the world, including the US, Great Britain, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Singapore, India, and China.

In Ontario there are currently over 300 BIAs and we are thrilled to announce that we will presenting at the Ontario provincial BIA conference with Dr David Dean, from the Carleton Centre for Public History at Carleton University. Our session titled Pasts and Presents: Promoting Heritage and Culture showcases the types of collaborative projects that are integral to advancing distinctive, liveable, and vibrant business districts within our communities. Please join us as we explore the historical connections within our communities either virtually or In Person at the 2021 BIA Conference in Hamilton from September 26-29, 2021.
